Episode 9 Artists

These are some abridged notes from what Cream used when reviewing the artists for Episode 9, including links to all of the artists mentioned. Check them all out!

-----------------------------------------------------

Taiwanese, generally chill, mix of electronic and jazzy?/rocky? instrumentation.

尋找尼歐 EP - Released on 4/20
Atmospheric, groovy dance beats, nice and chill

一些難過的時候可以聽的流行歌曲 (Some Pop Songs to Listen to When You're Sad) (2017 Album)
Chill, relaxing, but head-bopping groove - sorta like electronic lofi. Track 6 got that good reverb-heavy atmosphere, track 4 has an atmosphere that's just gorgeous ~2 minutes in, intro is a little out of place but groovy, track 2 is maybe least favorite first time around but is growing on me (a couple of mixing choices I don't like).

去吧!少女時代 EP (2017) and 大不了就讓我呼吸都會痛 EP (2019), both good, I like all of the songs.

-----------------------------------------------------

Taiwanese, Same main singer as Fragile Girls (IGUBand is their previous project).

沒有人在乎你在乎的事 (Album from 2014)
Overall - can be a little vanilla at times, but good. Vanilla is, in fact, a flavor, and is a better flavor than chocolate. Main singer has good voice - voice is powerful. I enjoyed all the songs

Some of my favorite songs:
1/INTRO - atmospheric start, fun! rock! cool synths!
3 - interesting textures w/ electric piano & bass, cool arpeggio synths
4 - cool synths, fun song
6 (Yes I'm in Love) - catchy, nice minimal composition (few instruments/parts), cheesy key change but its fun
7 - good synth, groovy, dance-able, very prominent Spanish? influence - can't remember genre name right now, chorus reminds me of muse
9 - very good groovy drum beat during verses, nice atmospheric chord sound, very cool transition sounds
12 (OUTRO) - nice little EP part & electric guitar part
13/Hidden track - has a good ending chorus

原諒我不明白你的悲傷 (Album from 2013)
Interesting intro - gets you into an atmosphere, don't hear it too often in albums I tend to listen to - not "musical" necessarily, all foley, 1st song has a cool terarria-like synth, 5th song good, final song good.

They have a song on the 2011 StreetVoice 冬季選集 album that's pretty good (doesn't appear to be on 2011 album based on name).

I haven't listened to 2011 album yet, maybe another time.

-----------------------------------------------------

宋冬野 (Dongye Song)

安和桥北 (2013) -

Chinese folk album - mostly lovely, calming songs. A nice mix between wonderful little calming pieces and a couple more fun up-beat songs/songs where you can clearly tell they're having fun.

-----------------------------------------------------

Ain't Got Nothing But Time (2016 Album)
fun! funky! rock-pop! a jam! Just fun to listen to. CAPTAIN TSAI IS A JAM!

1st Demo (2013 Demo Single)
Mixing is quite rough but still fun and I don't mind the rough mix so much for the first song - would probably be exhausting to listen to for a long time though

2014 EP
also fun

2nd Demo (2015 Demo Single)
Mixing is also meh - less impactful kind of rough than 1st demo - can listen to for long periods
